New Moon Reading and Happy Equinox!
Sep. 22nd, 2017 01:32 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Life keeps being, well, life. I sure don't feel balanced, either in world news (so many hurricanes and earthquakes!) or politics (I can't believe the GOP is still trying to take away my health care) or personal life (renewing my license plate is expensive enough without having the engine light on my car start to glow to assure me I'd fail the emissions test without repairs). Life feels so very uncertain, for me and for so many, many other people right now. It would be too easy to get lost in worrying, but that isn't a good life, and wouldn't help me or anyone else.
Last weekend, we went to a Pagan Pride gathering and got to listen to one of my favorite musical groups. While I was there, I let myself be talked into getting a reading by a lady who used three different animal-based decks. I had too many possible questions in mind, so I stuck with the simple question, "what do I most need to know?". She drew me Armadillo, which she said was all about setting boundaries appropriately, but also a warning to face my troubles and not try to hide in my shell. Armadillo was flanked by lizard, for dreams, and snake, for rebirth. My spirit Guide was drawn from another deck, and was Panda, who advised me to create a sacred space in my home and place of work. Finally, from a deck that's all wolves, I received the advice that I'm at a crossroads. The more I think about boundaries and sacred space, the more different ways I see that this reading applies in my life. So I've been working to get my spaces in better shape for the work I need to do and the life I want to live. Maybe I'll write more about that in a separate post.
But it's Equinox (or about to be), and the New Moon (or was, just a bit ago), so I'm reminded that one of the sacred things I chose to do for this year is to do regular readings. Maybe I can bring you some inspiration or some insight to help you find a new balance in your life.
So, on to the readings.
New friends and old are very welcome. I'd love to do a bunch of readings!
I am continuing to offer a five-card reading for $25, or if you want a larger reading we can discuss costs. As always, a signal boost will allow you to ask for a clarification card on some part of this reading, if you wish. Alternatively, you can ask for a Torn World reading and get an in-character reading in Affamarg or the Breidalam Mountains using that world's standard layout for the divination disks.
Or, of course, you can simply ask for a single card (with the usual clarifying card for people who tip). The guitar case below is my personal PayPal link, featuring my own artwork, which still inspires me even though it isn't Tarot-related. I'm still thinking about doing an appropriate self-portrait. Not today--but should it be realistic or abstract? Me as I am, or me as I might be portrayed in a deck? The idea is percolating, anyway. But back to readings!
You may ask about real life or a creative project, even a game. I can draw a card for you to meditate on, to represent the Guide you need right now, or to get you unstuck. I can draw a card for a character or can draw a card or cards for you to use as writing or art prompts, and I can modify a more-traditional five-card spread into a prompt for a story focusing on plot or characters or a little of both.
For free one card readings, you can pick from the Brian Froud's Faeries Oracle, the Daughters of the Moon Tarot (one of the round decks), or the Shapeshifter Tarot. You can ask a question, ask for a Guide or for inspiration, or you can just ask for a card. I don't need to know what your question is, but you are welcome to share it with me if you like.
The first card is free (though tips are always appreciated). Tips (including requests for longer readings) also let you ask me to use any of my other decks, including but not limited to my combined Susan Seddon Boulet Animal Spirits and Goddesses cards and my Fantasy Showcase Tarot deck where each card was done by a different science fiction/fantasy artist.
Tipping can also be used to request a private reading, or to draw a clarifying card if the initial card (or paid multi-card reading) leaves you with questions. If you want a longer reading, send a direct message so we can agree on the type of reading and rate.
Signal boosts are very much appreciated, and also earn you the right to ask for a clarifying card. (If you only signal boost, please do not ask for two cards to start with. A clarifying card, if the reading is unclear to you, is fine.)
I understand all too well that when people don't have cash or spoons that is generally when they most need inspiration! Don't be afraid to ask for a card if you can't tip.
If you tip, it's helpful to me for you to mention it here so I can connect your Paypal information with your request. Tips should be at least $1 (Paypal charges fees). If Paypal doesn't work for you, drop me a message and we'll work something out.
I've written before about why I do readings and some of the decks I use here, feel free to hop over and check me out. I'll wait.
I will reply to all requests. In the highly unlikely event that the number of requests nears my limits, I'll close this card draw by changing the status line below rather than risk leaving anyone without a response.
Thank you, and Blessed Be!
Status: Open to free readings through 9/24; open to tipped readings until this status message is changed.
As always, these readings are for entertainment and inspiration only. See my "Dandelyon's Readings" page if you have questions.

Date: 2017-09-22 12:34 pm (UTC)Just the usual, if you please. I can't leave a tip this time, because the pagan gathering I've been going to every year for more than 30 years is coming up in two weeks, and I've got to watch my cash flow. But I'd like to know whatever the Universe thinks I need to pay attention to. Thanks!
P.S. - The "check engine" light doesn't always mean that something expensive needs fixing - sometimes it can be as simple as the gas cap wasn't screwed down tightly enough the last time you bought gas. And you can get a mechanic to "clear the code" (re-set the built-in engine diagnostic computer), which will make the light go off for a short while, possibly long enough for the car to pass inspection.
The Friends
Date: 2017-09-23 02:14 am (UTC)Yeah, I know the check engine light might be close to meaningless, but it also might not. I have an appointment way too early on Monday. And an appointment way too early tomorrow to find out why my internet has been flaky. But at least the second one shouldn't cost me anything. I'm so very not a morning--
While we were talking, an odd sound had started, not exactly a buzzing or chiming. It got louder until I realized it was laughter, and stopped complaining to look around.
Sure enough, Laochan and Fairy Nuff have come to visit. They are running and flying, trying to do impossible stunts and catching each other. "We could do a Cirque du Lune, don't you think?"
I don't know enough French to know if I've transcribed that correctly, but their antics make me smile. I'm sure the Cirque do Soleil performers would enjoy their play. "With practice, perhaps," I agree.
"And teamwork!" Laochan smiles.
"Friendwork!" Fairy Nuff notes. "You have to have friends you can trust." He fluttered his wings and then folded them, doing a somersault in mid-air, looking like a cross between a basketball and a portly Buddah meditating. He rose in the air, and then plummeted towards a rose bush, staying all folded up. I reach automatically to stop him from tangling with the thorns, even though I'm too far away to save either of them.
Laochan caught him in his long, spindly arms and tossed him back into the air. "And you have to trust them when you need a lift!"
Fairy Nuff grinned, popping his wings open and letting his trajectory carry him to you. "Or even when you pretend, for the sake of the play, that you don't have wings." He winked, "Or whatever. But Laochan would have caught me if I'd miscalculated. No need to worry about the roses, miss. We count them part of your friendship with us, you know."
But what about the friends you can't trust with everything?" I ask, curious as to what they'll say.
"Well, you have to know your friends. I would trust Laochan with my life and your roses anytime--but not my chocolate chip cookies! You wouldn't believe how many cookies that skinny belly can hold. It's like he has a whole 'nother universe in there, full of hungry fairies."
Laochan stops still. "I thought you shared your cookies with me willingly!"
"Oh, I do, because I love you. But if I need more for another hour, I set them aside in a safe space, and make sure I have enough set out for even you to be happy." He looks at you and adds, "Sometimes taking care of a friend means not giving them an uncomfortable temptation."
Laochan gives you a huge grin. "See? My friend knows me well, and takes care of me." Then he looks at me. "You don't have any cookies, do you? Rose hips are good for a fairy, I'm told, but they're not cookies."
I smile. "Let me go get some from the pantry."
"Yay!" They both cheer, and return to trying to do silly human acrobatic tricks.
Re: The Friends
Date: 2017-09-23 11:14 am (UTC)As far as friends whom I trust in that way, though... do relatives count? Because the first one I thought of is my husband, and immediately after that, our grown son. Most of the other friends who would fit the definition are either gone to the Summerland, or else too physically far away to connect with except by words.
But I find it intriguing - even though I'm not sure how to interpret it - that two successive readings have been about connecting with other people in a joyful and loving way.
Re: The Friends
Date: 2017-09-23 04:06 pm (UTC)I would think that relatives count, but that's not the feeling I was getting. I could be wrong, of course. It's your life not mine. But maybe there's the possibility of making some new friends who can fit that kind of a role? Or maybe it's the words and long-distance support that matter to your situation. We sometimes overlook the effects of long-distance support.
Another possibility is that this isn't about you getting support, but finding ways to give it to some of those very dear friends you don't see often. Perhaps some of them are needing help or encouragement that you can give and would be perfectly willing to give, if you only knew they need it? It's a thing, I suspect, to be alert for at the gathering, just in case.
Or perhaps this is about the issue of knowing people well enough to know what it's good (for you and for them) to trust them with, and giving that trust. In my experience, when you make it clear you trust someone, they try to live up to that, so long as you don't trust them in a way that is inappropriate to who they are and what their limits are. And knowing they are trusted can sometimes be transformative, letting a person grow up and grow into a person who is appropriately trusted with more things later on down the road.
But I really have no insight as to why you're getting readings about connecting with people, unless you've been feeling lonely for a wider circle of close friends than just your husband and son. It can be really good to get out of the house and talk with other people. Maybe the cards are just telling you your upcoming gathering will be good for you.

Date: 2017-09-22 02:28 pm (UTC)Meanwhile, sent a tip. Would like a card from the Shapeshifter tarot... looking for continued inspiration for the work I've been doing, creative and healing. The last one was very on point.
The Seer
Date: 2017-09-23 02:34 am (UTC)The eagle-man is staring at a glowing crystal which he holds in his left hand, which is human in form. His other hand hangs free, fingers surrounded protectively by eagle talons, though he doesn't seem to need protection. Perhaps it is just automatic, to be ready to protect.
This card corresponds to the Hermit in other decks, and while the artwork does not suggest a sacrifice made for wisdom, there may be an element of that, of sacrifice or loss leading to wisdom.
There is clearly support here, and gentleness. The eagle-man is barefoot, and the tangle of roots under his feet lies smooth. The trees provide shade. I think they mean to help provide patience with their experience of slow growth and slow change. And of course, they bring the support of earth and water, air and fire so long as you need to stay in the sacred grove. When you want to leave, you can dive into the waters or leap into the air--or even simply walk onward on your own two feet.
You might scry the crystal, or you might simply take comfort in it, keeping it safe. It isn't speaking to me of anything in particular, but then, it isn't my crystal. It might speak to you. Or it might represent a firey portal, to balance your options for movement through water, air, and earth with a brighter option.
I think it's a good, strong card for this autumnal equinox.

Isis / The Priestess
Date: 2017-09-23 07:21 pm (UTC)So, if the moon is above, what's in her hands? She's holding it comfortably, not as if it's cold or awkward at all. Perhaps it is a blank page, full of potential? Or some kind of guiding light? There's a bright green shape in front of her--if the globe in her hands is a light, that could be illuminating your path. Or perhaps the green is a pyramid?
The Priestess is a card of Mystery, of hidden meanings and insight. Magic is in the air. This depiction doesn't have the usual two pillars, dark and white, but there are still elements of dark and bright that are central to the card.
Also, Isis' story contains a trip to the underworld, an attempt to heroically save a loved one. I'm not sure if that's advice for your characters or plot, or for you--it might be you need to delve deeper and face the hard issues in the story, travel into your own internal underworld, and come back out with some light to shine on how those issues affect your characters.
I hope this helps!
