Next weekend, I want a ladder!

wyld_dandelyonSo, I went into Chicago for the weekend to assist my niece in cleaning her room, washing her walls, sealing what we couldn't wash off, and starting to paint. The washing was a challenge due to the number of stickers she'd pasted to the walls prior to becoming a teenager, as well as the number of things stuck to the walls with blue (and green and pink and purple and yellow) goop. Yeah--the stuff that's advertised to not damage your walls.
Just a word of advice, especially to people with textured walls--it's easier to plaster in the holes from screws and nails than to get this goop off of walls when it's been there for years. Even when your sister doesn't mind you using up most of a bottle of GooGone.
But the cleaning part is the boring part. The niece wants a Halloween room; concerned about the room being too dark, I suggested adding a harvest moon. The Great Aunt (my aunt) suggested that a harvest moon can have other uses. The Mom (My sister, Dragon) suggested if we don't paint bats in front of the moon, we could put cut-outs or hang bats now, and later hang Santa Clause in his sleigh in front of the moon. "Versatile" said the niece, "I like it."
So, one wall is to have her doll house (which will be in front of houses painted on the wall) a bedside table, the head of the twin bed, and the harvest moon. The other wall is going to have clouds reflecting the moon's colors.
So, I introduced her to the idea of putting more than one color on the brush at a time, let her put the first paint on the wall, and then we started painting. Here's this weekend's result. You might notice the tops of the walls aren't painted; my sister doesn't have a ladder. Next weekend we'll borrow one from the Great Aunt! And add more details! And color to the moon. And a twisty tree. Right now you can still see the spots where I patched the plaster in the moon, which has almost no new paint on it, just a little shading to make it more moon-like.
Oh--for scale, you can see the edge of the closet door on the left, and a step-stool with the painter's tray in front of the moon.
This is my first experience using a painter's tray as palette. What do you think?
