Card draw for the New Moon, or New Year, or New Project, or Just for You

It's a New Moon tonight, perfect for starting new projects--and what bigger or more important new project is there than the new year? Well, a new novel, maybe, or a short story collection, or an album...

Anyway, there's lots of reasons, right now, that a person might want a card drawn. We face an uncertain future in so many ways. I am hoping to send some good energy out into the world, spark some hope and creativity, and help each of you to get a good start on something that matters to you. So, a card draw!

I hope you will stop by my garden. There's snow outside, so we'll pass through the frost-covered rose bushes and head inside. I'll leave an offering of food to the feral cats and the poor, paraplegic racoon in my yard as we pass--those critters still cannot be convinced I'm harmless, so there's not much I can do for them, but they'll happily eat the food I leave for them. Hopefully that is enough.

You and I can share hot chocolate or tea and chat, and you can get a reading if you would like one. Both new friends and old are welcome.

From now to January 1st, for free one card readings, you can pick from the Brian Froud's Faeries Oracle, my combined Susan Seddon Boulet Animal Spirits and Goddesses cards, or the Shapeshifter Tarot. You can ask a question, ask for a Guide, ask for inspiration, or you can just ask for a card. You can also ask for one of your characters or in some other way ask for advice or inspiration for a creative project.

The first card is free (though tips are always appreciated). Tips also let you ask me to use any of my other decks, to request a private reading, or to draw a clarifying card. If you want a longer reading, send a direct message so we can agree on the type of reading and rate.

Please consider dropping something in the guitar case below. Readings take time and energy, and even though the Milwaukee winter, like everything else, has been affected by global warming, winter heat is pricey and old houses always need repair somewhere or other.

Signal boosts are very much appreciated, and also earn you the right to ask for a clarifying card.

I understand all too well that when people don't have cash or spoons that is generally when they most need inspiration! Don't be afraid to ask for a card if you can't tip.

If you tip, it's helpful to me for you to mention it here so I can connect your paypal information with your request. Tips should be at least $1 (Paypal charges fees). If that doesn't work for you, drop me a message and we'll work something out.

I've written before about why I do readings and some of the decks I use here, feel free to hop over and check me out. I'll wait.

I will reply to all requests. In the highly unlikely event that the number of requests nears my limits, I'll close this card draw by adding a clear note at the top of the post rather than risk leaving anyone without a response. However, I intend to stay open until the end of New Year's Day, and longer for paid readings since, between the holidays and being in these days of low LJ usage, people may find the post late.

Thank you, and Blessed Be!

As always, these readings are for entertainment and inspiration only. See my "Dandelyon's Readings" page if you have questions.

The Garden

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2016-12-29 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
For you, I draw the first card in the Earth Element, which corresponds to pentacles. The imagery is bright and fertile, a man and woman surrounded by plants and creatures. A butterfly, symbol of the soul, ks prominent, but there's a sea-gull above, sunflowers and other flowers, a pear tree, and magical spirals in the earth. A snake and a cat frame the people (I note that both can be seen as symbols of rebirth, with the cat's nine lives), and there is a sense of abundance, fertility, and creativity.

Big things have small beginnings. But if you have ever had a garden, you know that seeds aren't enough. You need to plant them, and provide them with nourishment, sun, and water--and you need to tend them, provide support or pruning, and protect them from weeds and animals that would steal your harvest.

Whatever you're planning, the universe will provide what you need, but your attention and work will matter. You won't get the results you dream of if all you do is sit back and wait.

May I please have a card from the Brian Froud deck, because I like hearing what you get from it. I have a prompt to write to " As for a personal prompt, i'm lost. Either something that appeals to you, or something related to seasons being backwards" and I need a few extra ideas to swirl in my head with it I think.

If I am allowed any clarifying cards I am happy to let you choose which deck seems appropriate at the time.

I have put something in the tip jar.

Ekstasis and Faeries of the Future

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
A troupe of fairies and gnomes come into the room as I draw your cards. They are singing--they are all singing, in voices high and low, pure and strange, on key and off. It is hard to tell who is leading, either the physical movement or the song. There is a gnome who seems to be seeing all directions at once, spinning and dancing among the others freely. There is a hugely pregnant faerie, looking full of joy and worry all at once. There are soot sprites and light sprites, young and old, beautiful and ugly, and they all dance and sing around us, before moving out into the winter-bound rose garden, kissing the sleeping plants and leaving footprints and strange runes in the snow.

A small bearded faerie is left standing beside you. He has a belt full of forging tools and fire gleams in his eyes. "These cards seem a lot like the prompts you got," he notes. "But you have an idea, I can tell you do, but it seems too big, too daunting. It might stretch your skills, but go wholeheartedly with your inspiration. You can do it, I know you can!"

He smiles at you, takes out his tools and adjusts one of your own writing tools, and then is off, joining the troupe so swiftly and smoothly it is as if he never paused to talk. You look at your own tool, which gleams as if he had polished it, and seems otherwise perfectly normal--and at the same time, somehow, invisibly magical.

And then the troupe is out of sight, and shortly is out of hearing range, and a wind blows across the snow, which should be too melted to drift, and yet drift it does, so the strange footprints and runes might be just random melt-patterns. But you know they are not random at all.

I would appreciate some insight as to how to best use my being different, in the aid of deflecting the world's trajectory from its current apparent lurch away from sympathy and unity toward hatred and division.

I've dropped a dozen or so therms into the tip jar to help hold the long, cold nights at bay.

For you I draw the sixth card in the element of Earth (Pentacles). The image is a satyr, standing nude and proud on a rocky promontory. Below is a coyote or wolf howling.

The first and most obvious answer for your question is, therefore, to be visible and vocal.

The next thing I notice is that the rocky promontory has faces imbued into it, and goddess spirals and other symbols carved into it. The faces look mute to me--unable to speak up or simply lacking the spoons to do so. I would say that you need to be aware that if you choose to be so boldly visible, you will need to have the support of other people who are also different, but who are not in a position to be so out in the open. You need to reach out to them, to listen to them, to be their voice, just as they stand their ground and do what they can, be it a little or a lot, to lift you up and to support the work. Perhaps you will need to both receive and to give charity.

For additional inspiration, I draw you the 13th major arcana card, Rebirth. The image on the card is clearly a bird Goddess, the moon behind her showing the visages of maiden, mother, and crone. She holds a rose in her human hand and with her bird talon hand, she offers you a goblet. Her hair is long and black, and she has a medicine wheel with three feathers in her hair. I cannot say if the drink She offers is bitter or sweet, but I believe it is meant to assist you in this work.

I would love a card, from any deck. So many things are so up in the air! Looking ahead to next year is intimidating.

Ffaff the Ffooter

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I invite you in and offer you tea or chocolate (or both, of course). We putter around the kitchen, choosing drinks and snacks, and when we get to the table, he is there, looking at first like a little twist of autumn leaves sitting like a centerpiece, at the very center of the round table. "It is important to be centered." His voice is low and smooth, very pleasant to listen to.

Surprised, we agree, and as hostess, I offer him refreshment. He asks for water to wash feet with, and then busies himself washing first his own feet, then yours, and finally mine. "Feet are so important," he says, "They are your connection to the world, and your way to get around." He reaches with one squeaky-clean foot and picks up the soap, which he rubs against your feet with care, then rinsing them off. "Take care of your feet, and the rest of you, of course. You'll need your connection to reality when my partner arrives."

He dries our feet too, warning that fungus loves feet, and we don't need that, surely we don't.

Then he turns to a newcomer, an insubstantial shifting form made of light, who ruffles his antennae fondly. "I don't have feet, silly!" Her voice is higher, but its range shifts unexpectedly.

"So, you are the great Singer of Initiation!" His voice remains low and smooth, meditative, grounding. "You need your connection to reality too, you know!" He takes the soapy cloth and washes the gleams where feet might be, if you could see her better.

"I do?" She seems amused by the assertion. "My power comes from unrooting people who are stuck when change is needed, not from becoming stuck myself!" But she lets him do his work and she turns to you. "The coming year will be a challenge for you, but Ffaff is right--for you, it's important to stay grounded and centered as you deal with changes not of your own making and as you make changes yourself as well. The practical stuff supports all the rest."

From the Animal Spirits and Goddesses deck, a card for my January, please! <3 <3

I boosted the signal, since I cannot tip at the moment!

Fortuna

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
For you, I draw Fortuna, a Goddess who presides over the earth's abundance and the destinies, good and bad, of human beings. Her name is derived from "Vortumna" or "She who turns the year about." She arrives as a dark-skinned woman in a shifting, complex headdress. One moment it looks like moths, another like a lion's head, and a moment later like flame, or like a starry night full of whirling planets. In her hands are objects that look like cards or dice or coins. She embodies so many, many possibilities.

I hope she is come to be your guide for January, since I'm not at all sure what to make of her as a portent!

The advice I have for you is to be as ready as you can to choose quickly between options, to grab the ring if you can, and to dodge misfortune if necessary. Here's hoping Fortuna brings you the insight to make good choices and to be in the right place at the right time to move your life into a more fortunate path.

Thank you

Whatever you feel led to use, just would like to know if the Universe has anything I need to know, thank you :)

The Moon

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2016-12-30 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
For you I drew The Moon from the Shapeshifter Tarot. This card shows a woman and a man kneeling at the base of a winter-bare tree in the light of the full moon. They have their heads lifted in the traditional wolf-howling position as they morph to (or perhaps from) wolf form. Icicles hang from the tree and snow is falling, and though they are kneeling in the snow, they are not cold; the magic of the moment has them, or perhaps they are masters of that magic.

The moon, in any deck, is a card of power and magic, but not the traditional hierarchical power, more of a power that arises from within, a power that, like the were-curse, can seem dangerous as well as helpful. It's important to face whatever puzzle or maze you are presented with and to solve it; your task is to learn to use your own magic, whatever it is, with wisdom.

Remember that the difference between "will power" and "stubbornness" is only whether that stick-to-it-iveness is used wisely or foolishly. Your own abilities can be used to help or harm, to heal or wound, in charity or in selfishness.

You are coming into a time when your action--or your lack of action--won't be hidden in the darkness, but will be made visible just as the icicle-covered tree is revealed by the full moon in this card. Be aware that with some things, a spotlight is a magnifier. You are, therefore, approaching a time when you can do more good for yourself and others than you can now, if you take control of your own inner power, here symbolized as shape-shifting magic.

This card assures you that your choices matter.

Legacy

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2017-01-01 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
For you I drew the fourth card of the earth element, which corresponds to the Four of Pentacles. The image at first glance, is a herd of deer moving forward through a field of flowers, with...a tree? a rift in the fabric of the universe? Well, definitely a spiderweb or internet web and clouds. The front deer are a man and a woman, or perhaps the singular, two-headed front deer represents both the man and woman whose spirits hover above it.

The deer look happy, the human faces contemplative or perhaps even worried.

For you, the sense I get is that the natural things are moving forward, it's the mental ones that are unsettled. You have a legacy to build or perhaps to pass on, and that is central to your year. You are not alone, and you do have spirits following in your footsteps. The present and future are not all bleak; when they seem that way, stop to smell the flowers, eat something special, and spin a new story to carry your voice and your vision into the future.

[identity profile] elvenjoy.livejournal.com 2017-01-01 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
I would appreciate a message from my soulbonds, K & L (both male if that is needed, I can private message if you need more info), if you're okay with that? You can use whichever deck you think would be best for this purpose.

Thank you very much! Sadly I don't have a credit card or anyone I can signal boost this to who doesn't already know you, but I would if I could!

Goddess of Fire

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2017-01-01 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Keeping your request in mind, I drew a card. I got the Goddess of Fire, which corresponds to the Queen of Swords.

The image is of a woman/lioness whose hair swirls around both her human and her lion form, circling a tree and pooling around her feet. She holds an arrow in her human hand and her lioness paw's claws are out. Despite this, she is relaxed and confident, as if these are symbols of her power, not tools that she needs at the moment--though, of course, if she needed them, they are at hand.

Since you mention that your soulbonds are both male, I would guess that perhaps their message is about you, and that this image represents qualities in you that you will need. Confidence, light, warmth, joy, the power to protect yourself, the power to fundamentally transform things--those are what I see in this card. Those are all traits in you, no matter how undeveloped they might be at the moment. If I am right in this guess, your soulbonds are likely telling you that you need these qualities right now.

It is also possible they are pointing out an ally to you, or something else that I don't see, but what feels right to me is that their message is about you and the qualities in yourself you will be needing in the coming year.

I would like a card for the new year, from the shapeshifter tarot, please.

I can't tip at the moment, but I will give a signal boost, now that I have a few active people on my friends list. :)

Conflict

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2017-01-01 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
For you, I drew the fifth card in the fire element, corresponding to swords in a regular Tarot deck. The image on the card is a man/bear, standing in a swirl of water, in font of a twisted old tree trunk. The weather is stormy, and rain is falling. The man/bear stands ready to fight with teeth and claws.

Feeling I can't give you only that much, I reach for the cards again, hoping to draw from them a card to point your way out of, or at least successfully through, the conflict ahead. A whole bunch of cards slide out of the pouch, both strong images and troubling ones, scattered at my feet on the floor. It would seem you have lots of resources to choose from, perhaps too many. One of them is the World, personified as a smiling, friendly woman. I gather those together, shuffle them, and ask which one is most important for you in the coming year, and again I draw a card with a twisted, broken tree trunk. This is the tenth card of the Air Element, which corresponds with wands. It shows a white wasteland, three birds circling over the remains of the tree. The card's name is Burden.

I hope that these cards bring you insight. Since you boosted the signal, you are welcome to ask for a clarifying card. It sounds like you face significant challenges in the coming year. Good luck!

Wealth, reversed

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2017-01-02 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
For you, I drew the 10th card of the Earth element, which corresponds to Pentacles, from the Shapeshifter Tarot. A bird woman stands, rooted to the ground, three birds flying overhead. There is a tiny tree next to her, too young to produce fruit, and a stone menhir, signifying remembrance of past times and the inheritance of past wisdom. Being reversed, I believe this card is a warning of financial challenges in the coming year. To discover what resources you have to get you through these hard times, I drew another card, and got the Garden, which is the first card of the Earth element. You do have skills and resources to use, but it looks like you must go back to basics and nurture them. Gardens require patience and careful allocation of resources, when they are scarce, but they can grow better food than you can buy. I wish you luck in your gardening!

The Friends (from the Faeries' Oracle)

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2017-01-02 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
As we settle into our chairs, two faeries zoom in--or more precisely, a long, skinhy faery zooms in, his chubby friend balanced placidly on his hand above his head. They grin madly as they cavort and play around us. I pour our drinks and offer them refreshments as well. With the prospect of hot chocolate and cookies, they settle into chairs and introduce themselves. The chubby one is Faery Nuff and the skinny one is Laochan. They chatter about all sorts of things, but the theme is constant--the importance of friends and the support friendship can bring to one's ventures. After refreshments, they turn to our hair. "Let's do makeovers!" They cry it in unison.

"Wait--what?" I grab the knife and kitchen scissors. "No cutting! No permanent changes--at least to my hair!"

They grin. "Updo! Updo!" From nowhere, clips and ribbons and glitter appears, and before we know it, our hair has been combed, arranged, and decorated. Dutifully, we admire the results in a mirror that wasn't there a moment before.

"What about you?" Their hair isn't long enough for an updo, but they let us paint their wings with glitter.

"Yay! New friends! New friends!" They chant and dance a bit, then Laochan scoops Faery Nuff up in one bony hand. They amile at us, say, "See you later!" and are gone--for now, at least.

Epona's Wild Daughter

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2017-01-02 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
A glowing faery appears, stars in her hair and feathered wings gleaming in the darkness. Dorcha is the wild daughter of Epona, Lady of the horse and the Moon, and she takes us through the dark, hidden sides of ourselves and into healing and fulfillment.

Dorcha says that while you may face many outer challenges this year, the challenges that must not be ignored are the ones within you. Nightmares, depression, old habits--I'm not sure which darknsss within you face, but face them you must, and either transcend them or compensate for them appropriately, so that you can also face the outer challenges that this year will bring to all of us. Dorcha also says to tell you not to be afraid of your own wildness, that it is a strength if you use it wisely.

Dorcha's companion is Honesty. This faery is not soft and beautiful, but instead is gaunt and striking. You can see his bones and organs, and his eyes gaze upon you with compassion, but no compromise. Truth matters, he says, and it is important for you to honor truth, whatever that may be, beautiful or ugly. In your dealings with others, remember that different people may be operating on different assumptions, and keep communication clear and unambiguous. He also counsels that it is important to act with compassion and tact--too often "brutal honesty" is not so much honest as brutal. Be kind to yourself and others, as much as you can while still facing the truth. Be clear of the distinction between opinion and fact.

He pats your hand. "It won't be as hard as you fear, though. When facing a whole year, the goals seem like a mountain, but each challenge is just a part of the trip. You don't have to do it all at once."

Ta-Om the Poet

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2017-01-02 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Ta-Om dreamer and writer, but he is also a shape-shifter and trickster. He is full of mischief and romance and boundless energy. We glimpse him by the lilac tree in my garden, and then by the roses, standing still in the snow. But then he is gone.

We go inside and make tea, and he is there again, taking my cup as if I'd poured it for him. Happily, I have more cups, and more tea.

He turns to you, and asks if you're writing something. He seems very interested, focused, and more serious than he was before.

Another faery whispers in my ear, "Ta-Om can be great fun, so long as you don't get him going on about his poetry. Then, well, then you'd think he was a worker, not a lover."

I watch the two of you talk, and tell the invisible faery at my elbow that it seems to me that when someone loves a creative pursuit, they have more fun in that work than they do in wine or chocolate. I feel the air by my ear move gently, back and forth. "Ah, another one, I see. I'll let you folks be and go find a proper party!"

The other faery is gone, but Ta-Om remains, happy to talk about poetry, plotting, and characterization until the tea gets cold and the table is covered with writings. Quietly, I make more tea and set it out for the two of you, then head to my own computer, feeling inspired.

Himself

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2017-01-02 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
For you, I draw Himself, the guardian of the hunters and the hunted, the power that is the energy of life itself, changing and moving and evolving. Everything he touches becomes more of what it is, and he reaches out to touch you. The challenges you face in the coming year will help you to see what you are and what you have achieved so far--and your choices will determine what you will become.

There's a great deal of energy here, energy that you can use for healing and creativity--or, if you choose, for destruction. Blocking this energy can manifest as depression or exhaustion.

The image that comes to me of your upcoming year is you riding a tiger--your ability to embrace and befriend that energy, and to direct it wisely and compassionately is essential to surviving the year, and with care, there's a good chance you can do so in better shape than you began it.

Gaia

[identity profile] wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com 2017-01-02 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
For you I drew Seddon-Boulet's painting, Gaia. Here is a link to the image.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjTjc26vKLRAhXG24MKHa-NAvQQjRwIBw&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pinterest.com%2Fchezlara%2Fsusan-seddon-boulet%2F&psig=AFQjCNFWDyPWKY_23v-T-DVIgqVPm6iHlQ&ust=1483412531719467

Gaia, as Seddon-Boulet envisioned her, is the Goddess of the Soul, which is rooted in the body and in space-time, but still, Gaia is concerned with the process of living and growing, of being born, changing and eventually dying, and those things are all happening all the time. She may mark the falling of each sparrow, but she doesn't bother herself with predictions. She is too busy living, all the lives, all the time.

She welcomes you to embrace her energy, to live and create as long and as lovingly and as energetically as you can. Sing your songs, dance your dances, let your light grow out of the darkness of your roots and flower, bearing fruit in season--and in season, you will return to her and what remains of your energy will flow back into Gaia, to be reformed and to grow again.

This Goddess reminds us that we must ground ourselves in the reality of nature and that all the sides of ourselves, light and dark, strong and weak, pleasant and unpleasant, all of them are valuable and powerful.

I get the sense that this is a response to your question, rather than a direct answer. The Goddess doesn't seem concerned about your bonds or when or even whether you break them, rather she is concerned about your life as a part of the ecosystem of all lives. She says you matter--maybe not more than a falcon or coyote, an owl or fish or mosquito, but certainly not less. She reminds you that we all have the power of life overflowing, all of the possibilities of each moment, and all of the magic of each breath.

If you want a clarifying card, let me know.

First time commenting -- we are friends on FB and I saw your post there.
I would love a draw from your choice of deck. Thank you.

Welcome!

For you I have drawn the 14th major arcana card. It shows a mother dolphin with two young dolphins, pictured also as a red-headed woman with her two smiling, red-headed children. The image is rich and joyful, showing an ocean bed with a sea star and other ocean creatures. Behind them, there are stars, or perhaps bubbles. A swirl in the middle could represent currents or the surface of the water, the line between sky and sea, or even perhaps a dolphin ring (if you haven't seen dolphins playing with rings of air that they create underwater, go find a video! It's magical.)

I see so many things in this card: a wealth of resources (simple resources, perhaps, but beautiful and sustaining; the legacy of things taught to your children or successors; the ability to dance between different realms of existence; the joy and utility of playfulness; the contrast--and the balance, and the oneness--between fire and water.

This is, I think, the least chaotic image I've drawn in this draw, and yet chaos is inherent in water and in fire. But it's possible that you can find--and share--serenity despite whatever "weather" you are splashing through or swimming under.

If it's not too late, I would like a card, please. It's probably going to be a busy year and I'm wondering what that will mean for creative projects.

If you're still open I'd like a card, please. Whichever deck feels right and I have a query about how best to move forward from yet another rough patch.

Had early errands and then furnace repairs yesterday that required driving my handyman around to a bunch of stores to find the part; have an appointment to get my partner to today and have to leave momentarily; I'll draw your card this evening!

Thank you for dropping by. I'm glad to draw you a card.
